Friggin Hippy, Cut your Hair!
Kayla and James met at work, on a completely random instance. Kayla looked and this long-haired kid and yelled, "Hey Hippie - Isn't it time for your annual haircut?"
"What?"
"I said, hey hippie, isn't it about time for your annual haircut?"
This perked the interest of the hippie, and he began to follow this girl who had so blatantly spoken out to him. At first, James' psychosis was so bad that he thought she was a figment of imagination. He let this delusion flow, and ran with it. Only months later,a nd with much medication, did he figure out that she was real, and that she had a name.
A name, and piggies, and rats, and a best-friend/ex-boyfriend that wasn't quite over her yet, and a small drinking problem, and that she occasionally smoked (despite what her Myspace profile states), and a bad habit of getting into quirkily intimate situations with others. She also broke all the barriers of people that James understood. She was caring, compassionate, and (literally) crazy. She would leap into things whole-heartedly, with no recompense of repercussions, and lived her life without many regrets. She welcomed all things, and was a truly free spirit. It blew his mind away.
The Truth
The truth would have it that James fell head over heels for her, but in all honesty, for the first three to four months James thought she was a delusion, and nothing more. His first chance encounter with her was more planned and measured than anything else. He came over with the intent of a one-nighter, and bought off Guillermo with his favorite beer.
Three days later Kayla confronted him about it, and he confessed. They both laughed, and she never thought the worse of it. They were soon involved in an all-out relationship. They had picked out rings and were planning on getting married. By this time, James had moved into Kayla's apartment, and was receiving psychiatric assistance.
Medicated Madness
When James began taking his medication, he mellowed completely. Kayla got to know, and like this person. Little did she realize that this was a man after therapy and medication for mental illness. As James began to realize that Kayla was real, and the damage he had caused in his relationship with his wife, he panicked.
Throughout these episodes of saddness, crying, and groveling at Sara's feet, Kayla continually supported James. She urged him to keep his relationship with Sara, and encouraged him to do nice things to regain her trust. She listened to him, late into the night, and offered comfort and solace from the bad decisions he had made whilst un-medicated. She truly understood what it was like to be unable to control yourself, your thoughts, your emotions, and your body - she was on medication as well.
Into the Darkness
In the middle of September, James went off his medication due to not having health insurance while switching jobs. Because of this, there was no medicine. James began his mood swings and bi-polar outbursts, and Kayla begin to see exactly what it was that Sara had to go through. She began to doubt if this was even the same person, and found herself wondering if the person at her house was going to be settled and safe or broken and chaotic on a day to day basis.
James continued to fend off the delusions, and attempted to continue being the person everyone had come to expect him to be. Kayla was accepting of this, and while she found it hard to accept that until he was re-medicated he would behave this way, she did her best to understand, and was not greatly upset by the varying shifts that provided space between them.
Because of this, Kayla has become one of the most trusted and loved individuals in James' Life.
2010
In the time that followed, James' mood swings and ability to differentiate hallucinations from reality began to drastically decline. Combined with the stress of having children around, and very little money, Kayla patience began to wear thin.
Kayla had taken, and maxed out her FMLA/STD time for 2009, and is well on her way to doing so again this year. Hopefully, with the money situation improving, and the childcare situation getting better, the relationship will get better.
If not, Kayla is destined to be done with it.
